Congratulations to Dr. Shibbir Ahmed, Now Faculty at Texas State!

It is a privilege to celebrate another former student stepping into a faculty role.

Shibbir Ahmed, who completed his PhD with our group at Iowa State this year, has joined Texas State University as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science.

Shibbir’s research focuses on software engineering for trustworthy machine learning. He has worked to bring the discipline of specification and contracts to deep learning, including methods that infer data preconditions for trained models so that a system can flag when an input falls outside what the model was prepared to handle. His ICSE 2024 paper, DeepInfer, is a fine example of that line of work. It is a thoughtful agenda, and a timely one, as machine learning moves into settings where reliability genuinely matters.
