Our paper introducing Boa, a language and infrastructure for analyzing ultra-large-scale software repositories, was presented at ICSE 2013. Boa lets a researcher write an analysis once and run it across hundreds of thousands of open-source projects, which makes large-scale empirical software engineering practical for the wider community.
